At Runway we love to build on our understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Maori and Reo.
Recently as a team building and professional development activity, the Runway Team thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Auckland Museum to experience their Māori Cultural Experience.
There we heard beautiful songs, saw incredible poi skills in action, discovered the true meaning and intention of the Haka, and were gifted with many other valuable insights into the taonga (treasure) of Maori culture.
One of the insights that was new for some of our team, was that clapping is different. In Te Ao Maori, to give praise or applaud, hands would be kept apart, raised to chest height and shaken slightly – creating a quiet action of appreciation- more like a beautiful dance move. This would be wonderful for our neurodiverse who are noise sensitive!
Ilse and Kelvin were great sports participating in one of the Waiata's! Spot them in the photo - They were stars!
